Palette(able) Entomology:
Using SciArt and SciComm for Effective Insect-focused Education and Engagement |
The theme for the Entomological Society of America (EntSoc) annual meeting this year is Entomology as Inspiration: Insects through art, science, and culture. Naturally my co-organizers and I jumped at the chance to hold a symposium focused on using art and other forms of creative SciComm in insect education. Our member symposium features talks from artists, scientists, educators, and students who have all used art to do their entomological work. We are also hosting a mini workshop focused on zine making, and we'll be crowd sourcing a zine of illustrated conference notes. If you're attending the meeting come join us!

Bridging Art and Science:
|
This semester I am helping with a new course being co-taught through the departments of Art and Entomology and Wildlife Ecology at UD. Our students are learning ecological principles, photography, and elements of design, and are tasked with creating a project that communicates something about the ecological landscape. Each student will approach this broad topic in a unique way, and I can't wait to see what they produce!
